Archive Fever is a show about the shifting power of historical artifacts in a world where reality is up for grabs.
In an era of geopolitical upheaval and ‘alt facts’, history is being actively re-colonised by new narratives. These narratives freely exchange truth for ideology, and aggressively reassign the meaning of existing cultural assets. Archive Fever examines how artists produce new cultural assets in their attempts to occupy this contested terrain.
Strategically employing post-industrial manufacturing, CGI-laced video, and traditional image-making techniques, artists appropriate artifacts from the past in order to reshape the perception of history. Archive Fever reaffirms the power of the image, and of our ability to derive meaning from it.
Success is a Perth-based arts organisation which privileges ambitious, intellectually rigorous, and critically challenging art. It specialises in presenting short term and site-specific curatorial projects in atypical exhibition spaces. Success focuses on presenting new work of broad and pressing cultural importance, frequently pairing significant international artists alongside cutting-edge Australian practice.
Founded In 2016, Success ran a year-long visual art and performance programme in a vast underground exhibition venue, located in a former Myer department store building in central Fremantle. Since then it has pursued a number of off-site curatorial projects.
