Here lies lies ~ Mandy Quadrio
The exhibition Here lies lies is an intersection of Mandy Quadrio’s engagement with land, sea and her relationship to colonising outcomes. Mandy’s sculptures draw reference from traditional boat forms, whilst harsh steel wool overlays address the brutalities of colonisation. These structures become literal and metaphorical vessels for navigating a complex and contorted history. Here lies lies, brings attention to the myths, denials and blatant inaccuracies of our history. Specifically here on country in tebrakunna (north-east Tasmania), where Mandy’s history rests and is still lied about. She works to journey her story forward.
